English Lesson Material for Grade 9

Theme: "Bekantan - Indonesia's Unique Native Animal"

1. Reading Text (Bacaan)

Title: The Amazing Bekantan

The Bekantan (Proboscis Monkey) is one of Indonesia's most unique animals. It lives in the mangrove forests of Borneo (Kalimantan). This monkey is famous for its big nose and reddish-brown fur.

Bekantan monkeys are herbivores, which means they eat only plants like leaves, fruits, and seeds. They are good swimmers and can even dive into the water! Sadly, the Bekantan is an endangered species because their habitat is disappearing due to deforestation.

In Indonesia, the Bekantan is a protected animal. Some conservation centers, like Tanjung Putting National Park, help save these monkeys. We must protect the Bekantan and its habitat so that it does not become extinct.
